Dunnellon’s annual Christmas Parade and Celebration are coming up on December 7. Would you like to be a part of it this year? We have parade float applications, which are due on November 26, and we are seeking volunteers to help at the lineup, along the route and at the celebration.
The theme of the parade this year is WINTER WONDERLAND.
If you want to VOLUNTEER, please give us a call at the Chamber at 352-489-2320. We will get you signed up. You do not have to be an adult to help. If you are a high school student needing community service hours, this is a great gig!
If you plan to enter a float in the parade, please download and print these forms.
The forms and payment (checks should be made to Friends of Dunnellon Christmas Parade) can be dropped off to Michelle at Brannen Bank. The more floats, the better! There are prizes awards in several different categories, so we hope you will go all out!
If you would like to sponsor the parade and celebration, sponsors are needed. There are awards to be purchased, entertainment, and snow slides to be brought in for a little wintery fun for the kids.
There are TONS of other ways to get into the holiday spirit around town, and we will post them as we learn about them.
we know of the following holiday happenings:
December 6-8 and 13-15 6-8:30 nightly is Santa over the Rainbow at Rainbow Springs State Park. This annual event is just $2 (cash only) and features thousands of lights along with Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving by pontoon boat to journey up to their “house” to receive guests, to hear children talk about their Christmas wish lists and for photos (also $2, cash only). On December 26 and 27, the park will open from 6-8:30 for the light display only.
December 7 is a very busy day. In the morning, you have your choice between Brunch with Santa at Just a Cupcake Bakery & Café or the 6th annual Ugly Sweater 5K.
Brunch with Santa is a reservations-only event, taking place at Just a Cupcake Bakery & Caf
é located at 20001 E. Pennsylvania Ave. For those children who are a little wary of Santa, it’s a great opportunity to let them get used to his presence while they are eating before you ask them if they want to sit in his lap. You can dress up or dress down for this brunch. Wear either your holiday best or your warm fuzzy PJs. For reservations call 352-601-0047.
The Ugly Sweater 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk is put on by the Rainbow River Runners club and this year will benefit Dunnellon Little League. The first 250 people registered get a T-shirt and the first 200 finishers get a custom finisher medal. You can sign up to run for your school or team to win a cash prize for participation. And, of course, there’s the Ugly Sweater contest. Then go home and rest up for the parade, unless you need to finish up your float! Parade begins at 5:30 pm along Cedar Street and Pennsylvania Ave.
On December 10, at City Hall, will be the annual Christmas tree lighting. This will be a stop during the Dunnellon Chamber and Business Association’s Progressive Dinner, which will begin with appetizers at the Rainbow Springs Art Coop and end with dessert at the Greater Dunnellon Historic Society’s train depot. Stay tuned for more info as we firm up our plans.
Go back in time on December 13 from 5 to 9, the Historic Village carries on its 20+ year tradition of hosting Victorian Holiday. Festive food, music, lights, entertainment and caroling are paired with shopping, pictures with Santa and carriage rides. Come on out for a fun evening with some of the shop owners decked out in period dress.
If you are looking for a service opportunity and you like to wrap gifts, on Wednesday December 18, at 6 pm, members of the community will be wrapping gifts at Legacy Bingo for the December 19 Children’s Christmas Party for families in need.
